Abstract

In addition to formic beauties (design, pattern, color and weaving quality) of Chaleshtor Lozenge Rugs, the reason which makes them permanent artistic works since long time ago is their various applications which have conceptual and aesthetic characteristics. The way audiences and users encounter Lozenge Rugs is important in this diversity, and it evokes solidarity between form and function during the time. This paper represents a qualitative and descriptive-analytical research in anthropology of art which aims to recognize the way Chaleshtor Lozenge Rugs are used and what meanings and concepts do these applications include? Field data is gathered by interview with well-informed people in Chaleshtor and participatory observations. Analyzing field data showed that the use of Lozenge Rugs can be considered in 5 categories: consuming, decorative, ritual, economic, social; and ritual (using Rugs in rituals) and economic (role of Rugs in people’s livelihood) are the most important among them.
