Abstract

Purpose- Disability is a biological and social phenomenon that all societies face, regardless of their level of development. Groups whose biological needs in the social environment can provide them with the opportunity to move independently and without the help of others, thus having a significant impact on the dynamics of this group's life. In the present study, titled "Roots and Causes of Social Harms Facing Disabled Women in Tehran", the purpose of this study was to analyze the lived experience of disabled women in Tehran of social harms.
Methodology- In order to achieve the research objective, a qualitative phenomenological approach was chosen. The sampling method was also a combination of two approaches: convenience sampling and snowball sampling, which continued until theoretical saturation. The process of identifying samples, preparing and interviewing 30 participants was achieved. And the data was analyzed using the Claise approach.
Findings- The findings indicate that the roots and causes of social harm faced by disabled women in Tehran are: weak laws and regulations; weak planning in the field of education and empowerment of disabled women; weak awareness and culture; also, the way disabled women face this phenomenon is: non-acceptance and concealment, acceptance, confrontation, and self-empowerment.
Conclusion- In society, people with disabilities are treated in a way that makes them appear disabled and deprives them of social activities and presence in society, or they are treated in a way that makes them feel uncomfortable in society and prefer to stay at home. The general awareness of the culture about how to treat and interact with disabilities needs to change from the beginning; children should be taught not only not to ridicule the differences of their disabled friends, but also to praise those differences and the efforts of the disabled person. If children learn this way and such teachings are given from an early age, the distinction between different classes of society will be reduced and there will be greater social participation
